Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of having a Life Coach who comes from a background as a therapist?
Having had over 30 years of experience as a therapist, I have come to really understand people and the dynamics of change. I offer you empathy, understanding and a non-judgmental environment. I have developed intuition and insight into people's issues. All of my skills and expertise come into play during coaching sessions. Many of my clients have told me that they chose me because of my background as a therapist.
Is Life Coaching only about action-plans and goal-setting?
Not at all. Life Coaching is about growing and learning too. It's about being the best you can be, evolving, becoming and enjoying the process. However, it does involve action planning and accountability (reporting back to me in our next session or via email). My aim is to get people moving toward their goal based on their own agenda and values.
Does Life Coaching focus on personal issues or job issues?
The person's entire life is grist for the Life Coaching mill. Aspects of your life that might be worked on are: career, health/wellness, money, values, home, family, friends, fun & recreation, etc. Life Coaching seeks to bring balance and satisfaction to all of the various parts of your life.
How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions is determined by the progress you make. In most cases, a commitment to three months of sessions is optimal, with weekly sessions. The time allotted to each Next Path Life Coaching session is variable, but in most cases sessions will be 50 minutes long. The duration of our work together will also vary, to the extent that each person needs a individualized amount of time to achieve results that are sought.
Where do we meet?
Our work together will most often be through our conversations held either in person or via Skype or sometimes on-line chat. My office is located in New Haven, Connecticut, so if you live in that vicinity we can meet in person at my office. While I prefer to see clients in person, I frequently work with clients via Skype. It is my experience that working via Skype can be just as effective as working in person, face-to-face. It does not compromise the effectiveness of the Life Coaching process in any significant way.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for the initial meeting, which is usually between 15 and 30 minutes long by telephone. In the initial meeting we make the decision as to whether we are compatible as a "coach and client" team. After the initial meeting, I charge between $90 and $175 per 50-minute session. The fee is higher if you want or need a longer session.  If your income is limited, I do offer a sliding scale.  *I do ask that you pay for each session either prior to or immediately after the session. I do not want to have to send you billing statements. I accept most credit cards and Paypal.
